Youth Mental Health Toolkit | Young people have helped to shape a new wellbeing support kit called #GrowYourHappy. The online kit is an easy to digest page filled with ideas for young people to embrace taking care of their mental health. It includes everything from playlist recommendations to links to resources to get specialised help. It takes a positive look at the things young people can do to take care and look after their mental wellbeing.
The online space which is a pamphlet has been created by the Youth Council of St Helens and has been tailored by young people for young people including suggestions of how to be kind and positive messages to inspire your day.

Thoughtscape – First Stop For Your Mental Health | Thoughtscape is a collaborative service offer for emotional wellbeing, resilience and mental health support for children and young people in St Helens. This offer will provide support and interventions to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems including anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties. The three main service delivery partners within this offer are the Resilience Teams (Barnardo’s), Mental Health Support Teams (NHS) and Kooth.
This offer results in easier, early access to support when a child or young person is struggling with their emotional health or wellbeing. The collaborative approach means there will be no ‘wrong front door’ to the support they need as providers and services will work together to deliver the best and most appropriate support when it’s needed, regardless of who they initially seek the support from. We are also proud that the name and strapline for this collaboration were created and selected by the children and young people of St Helens.

Kooth – Online Counselling and Support

Kooth is an, online counselling and emotional well-being platform for children and young people, accessible through mobile, tablet and desktop. This service is anonymous and free at the point of use.
There is also a wealth of useful support and information, the ability to be creative and share your experiences and moderated forums to discuss with others who may be feeling the same.

Mental Health Support Teams | This resource has two teams currently allocated to St Helens. The Mental Health Support Teams will provide mental health support in the school setting with specific training from Health Education England. They offer CBT and other talking therapies in one-to-one and group formats and work in tandem with the Resilience Teams Service.
This first wave team allocated to St Helens covers the following schools: Cowley International College, St Augustine’s of Canterbury Catholic High School, St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, De La Salle Secondary School and the ~13 feeder primaries of Cowley College, St Augustine’s of Canterbury and St Cuthbert’s.
Our second team will ultimately cover Rainford high, Haydock High and their feeder primary schools once fully trained but as of March 2022 this team is supporting Rainford High, Haydock High, Rainford Brook Lodge, Alison Street and Legh Vale.

Resilience Teams Service | The Resilience Teams Service, commissioned with Barnardo’s, has been live from April 2021. This provision provides the wrap around emotional health and wellbeing support for clusters of secondary schools and Primary Care Networks, with a nominated point of contact, drop-in sessions delivered for children and young people along with sessions for parents/carers; standardised training and education for professionals using recognised programmes; and whole school resilience building working closely with school nursing, CAMHS and PATHS. The aim is to strengthen prevention work, provide evidence based interventions, drop in sessions for children, young people, families and staff, signposting to local provision and ensuring timely access to specialist services where required.
This comprises of two Emotional Wellbeing and Resilience Teams: Central and Circumference, based out of one of the secondary schools and a health centre. The teams are comprised of 1 senior practitioner, 4 practitioners and admin support with an overarching management structure.

Neurodevelopmental Pathway | The Neurodevelopment Pathway Team work assess children and young people with complex neurodevelopmental difficulties, who require a multi-agency assessment to gain a better understanding of their needs. This process may or may not lead to a formal diagnosis, but will inform an appropriate care plan to meet the specific needs of the individual going forwards. | All school age children and young people up to the age of 18 years | Referrals from all professionals who work with children and young people including GPs, paediatricians, speech and language therapists, schools etc. A referral should be completed jointly between the professionals and parent/carer 5bp-tr.sthelensneuropathway@nhs.net or you can contact the team for existing referrals or appointments on 01744 646 517.

Listening Ear | Children and young people specific bereavement and domestic violence support. Both services also have access to an Emotional Youth Club which can be accessed by individuals during and after their treatment:
Butterflies – offers group counselling for children and young people affected by bereavement or other forms of loss (such as divorce and family separation), including Primary or Secondary school aged specific groups. 1:1 Therapy is offered and this can also be provided virtually.
Titanium – offers therapy, training, support, advice and guidance to Children we Look After (CLA) and edge of care children, and their family units, with a history of domestic abuse and/or violence. The aims include addressing previous trauma and adverse childhood experiences, whilst also providing support for their foster carers and families.

Working in tandem, CAMHS and Barnardo’s work with young people with emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties, and their families. They provide specialist face to face therapies, including whole family holistic therapy, and also offer telephone consultations and virtual sessions. Young People’s Community Eating Disorder Service | This service provides assessment, treatment and support for young people with eating disorders and their families.
It aims to promote the early detection and treatment of eating disorders through a combination of one-to-one support and family therapy, along with support from a qualified dietitian. The service also offers group sessions and virtual contact to suit the needs of the individual.
